ICHEC: Improving Health Outcomes Globally through Better Education ICHEC is an international continuing health education initiative offered by the University of Toronto, Faculty of Medicine, which has a long-standing global reputation in this field, ™. ICHEC’s mandate is to provide evidence-based continuing health education and professional development programs, and share Toronto’s health expertise with the world in order to enhance the ability of health professionals globally. By sharing innovative education techniques, and drawing upon research to accelerate knowledge transfer, ICHEC enables efficient, effective execution of continuous learning programs in countries and organizations that would not otherwise be able to deliver and host. The result is that healthcare professionals around the world are empowered to make better decisions around the care and treatment of their patients – therefore driving improved health outcomes locally. Our Approach ICHEC’s model is a collaborative one. We bring together the best and brightest minds from the Toronto healthcare community to work with our local collaborators from both the public and private sectors to develop programs which target the specific needs and reflect local health issues, while adapting education techniques to the learning environment. ICHEC focuses on creating long-term, sustainable partnerships that not only impact the current healthcare training needs locally, and cultivate leaders who can then become the providers of healthcare services in the future, but also build organizational capacity locally for providing ongoing continuing health education. Our Partners ICHEC’s collaborative model leverages Mount Sinai Hospital, the University of Toronto, and its affiliated health sciences centres andcommunity organizations in Toronto. ICHEC in Action ICHEC is currently making a difference around the world in regions which include the following: Our Services & Programs – October 2009 Because ICHEC is offered by one of the leading University and academic health sciences centres in North America, our extensive offering leverages our expertise in research, clinical medicine and health education. The services and programs we offer are customizable, based on the specific needs of the collaborating partner or country, and include the following: 1. Faculty Development: to foster the development of educational leaders involved with training healthcare 2. Executive Leadership Development: to help local decision-makers and key stakeholders become more effective at creating, leading and managing change in the field of healthcare. 3. Continuing Medical/Health Education Programs: to help clinicians enhance their knowledge, skills and experiences in order to improve health outcomes through innovative, interactive, outcome-based learning and courses in clinical medicine. 4. Symposia/Conferences/Customized Courses: to bring together teams of leading medical and scientific authorities to develop programs which provide updates on the latest 5. Accreditation: to provide accreditation support for continuing education courses and programs in order to ensure that the quality standards associated with the University of Toronto, Faculty of Medicine are available locally, consistent with the University’s reputation for leadership, innovation and excellence in healthcare education. 6.
